Not All Stone Is Meant to Be Perfect

Perfection belongs to machines.

Stone has pores. Fractures. Inclusions. Changes in colour that refuse to repeat themselves.

We have learned to see consistency as a measure of quality. Identical surfaces. Identical colours. Identical objects.

Natural stone offers something else.

One block can be quiet. The next can be chaotic. A vein can disappear at an edge and return somewhere unexpected. A surface can reveal traces that no drawing, render or production specification could have predicted.

These are not flaws to be designed away.

They are the reason no two objects will ever be exactly the same.

At River & Root, we do not ask stone to behave like a manufactured material.

We let it remain stone.
